new shoes make all the difference

I took my birthday present out for a run today. And they are starting to feel good. Really good. My other shoes were so worn out, as you can tell. I had a couple of stress fractures in my feet from the lack of support so it was time for new ones. The Asics Gel Nimbus is my absolute favorite!

I'm actually excited to go running again! Not only do my feet feel better, but the shoes are pretty cute too. And that is a definite plus. Thanks Andy!
Here's to many miles!

a new post.

Finally. About time.
I've been meaning to update this forever but just haven't gotten around to it.
Me and Sarah were going to have a blogging contest to see if we could blog at least twice a week. Yeah, didn't happen.
Hm...where to start.
Andy. Andy is a great place to start.
We're in the double digits now. Only 95 more days to go. The last 9 months have gone by super fast. He'll be here before I know it! He sent me this picture last week and I just loved it. That watermelon looks so yummy, right?

Okay, this past weekend was Peach Days. It was filled with sunshine, walking, peach cobbler, pulled pork sandwiches, kettlecorn, snowcones, a 10k, and Kelli. I took a few pictures of the festivities with my holga so once I get the film developed I'll share the pictures.

My dad ran the 10k too. This 10k was a first for both of us. I wanted to get under 45 minutes. My time was 45:37. Crap, huh? My dad's goal was to finish in under an hour. He did it in 58 minutes. Sweet, huh!?

Kelli and I also went to a show last night at Kilby Court. We had so much fun. We always have so much fun. Anyway, it was cutest little place. It made me happy.

I had ultrasound school on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. We scanned each other abdomens in lab on Friday. So much fun! But its tough. And then I took 4 tests Friday night. Not the greatest way to spend a night. And a Friday night at that. I'm still buried in homework so if you don't hear from me for awhile, thats why.

this calls for cake and ice cream, right?!

So yesterday was my blog's first birthday! I just realized that. Its been a pretty lame year, huh? I mean, what, like 50-some-odd posts over the course of one year? Most people have that many in like a few months!
ANYWAY, here is little update of the past month (in no particular order)....

I received news of Andy's release date. DECEMBER 17TH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I ran my second race ever (...my first one being my marathon) and got second place out of the girls. Anyway, I received a nice little gift certificate to Striders. And trust me, it is going to come in handy. I'm wayyy overdue for some new running shoes. Like so overdue its bad, real bad. Like probably a good 1,000 miles overdue. No joke.

I went on a picnic up in the Uintahs.
I went to a movie with my longtime childhood friend who I hadn't really seen since she got married! We saw My Sisters Keeper. And I think I was either teared up or crying during the entire movie.

I got some nice vintage items at some estate sales. Like a really cute wicker picnic basket complete with plates, cups and utensils.
I watched fireworks on the fourth of July by myself.

I bought a serger so I could make more aprons.

I bought more fabric to make more quilts.

I registered for school and forked out around $700 just for books and modules (Ah, I still want to cry when I think about it...the money AND starting school).

I took an online class from Miss Kara. She's awesome and inspiring. And she's only 17. It was a music art journaling class and it rocked. It made me happy. I'm still working on it (more photos on flickr).

I went to Public Enemies with Jacki. Mmmm...Johnny Depp is uh...awesome. :]

I've been keeping an eye on the demolition of my high school. Its kind of sad when you think about it. :[ KelliPirelli has a nice little post about it here.

And I've been trying to catch up on the Harry Potter movies. I tried watching the first one when it came out a few years ago and I hated it so I just never watched any of them. I am still not a huge fan of the first movie...but each movie seems to get better. I just finished the fourth one this afternoon. I almost cried when Edward...er..I mean Cedric died (umm...does anyone else think that Rob looks better as Cedric than he does as Edward...?) That was very sad. I'm a huge fan of Ron. He is my favorite by far.
Well thats about it. Maybe my next year on blogger will be filled with more posts. and maybe my summer will get more exciting. but probably not.

26.2 miles in 4:04:44.44

Yes, my marathon was this past weekend. And yes, I'm still feeling it. My goodness! I can't even describe to you the amount of pain I've been in! I'm feeling better today, but I'm still having problems sitting, standing, and going up and down stairs.
Okay, so I guess I should start at the beginning. I woke up Saturday morning at 3am to the sound of rain pounding against my window. I couldn't believe it. Of course, it just HAD to rain on the day that I'm running 26.2 miles. Needless to say, I couldn't fall back asleep. The nerves started kicking in. By 4:25, I'm leaving my house to go pick up my friend in Logan. Once I pick Corrin up we head over to the park. I could not believe how many people came out to torture themselves that early in the morning! Bathrooms were all full...lines seemed like they were a mile long. At about 5:30 we get on the bus to take the ride up the canyon to the starting line. Again, rows of port-a-potties with lines of people stretching out in front of them. At 7am the guns go off and the race has started! Luckily the rain had pretty much stopped by now. So, for the first little while I was doing fine. In fact, I felt fine until mile 20. Yep, by the time I hit mile 21, I was dead. My calves have never burned so bad in my entire life. My legs were heavy, my knees hurt, my hips hurt, blisters were forming on my toes, a rash had formed on my arm and side from wearing my ipod, my back hurt, my stomach hurt, my head hurt. Everything hurt. I was thirsty, I was hungry, I was tired. I honestly did not think I was going to make it. I wanted to stop, sit on the curb and call for someone to come and pick me up. I did not want to finish the race. I kept telling myself, "Cmon Kristen, you only have five more miles. Five miles. Thats it. Thats so easy. You run that all the time." It didn't matter. I was dead tired. Eventually, I made it...in the pouring rain. 4:04:44. My time was 4 minutes and 44 seconds longer than what I was hoping for. But I was okay with that. I knew I gave it my all and that I couldn't have done it any faster.
After I finished the only thing that kept running through my head was, "You never have to do this again." And on Saturday, if you would have asked me if I would ever run another marathon, I would have told you no way. Thinking about it today, if someone asked me to run one with them, I'm almost positive my answer would be yes.
