holga // winter

I walked outside my front door yesterday only to have my face, ears, and fingers eaten off by the chilling wind. Its been pretty cold the past couple of days. And it is reminding me why I hate January, February and March. Can it just be Spring already?

holga // autumn

I've been waiting for weeks for my holga film...and it finally came! I had made a goal last year to use my holga more and now I finally have something to show for it.
Unfortunately the photos are making me miss autumn.

21 days

day nineteen : by him

Supposedly it takes 21 days to make or break a habit, right?
Hopefully this habit has been made because I'm on day 23...and I still have 342 days to go. The habit I'm trying to form is to take one photo every day. It was one of my goals for this year. I had attempted it before...but never stuck to it. This goal was made mostly because I knew it would help me get to know my camera a little bit better. But I think its also going to help me be better at documenting our lives. Andy is helping me out on this project because some days I work too much and don't get to come home 'til really really late. I have a link to the blog that I will be posting our daily photos on in my sidebar...just if you're interested. Wish me luck!

through the viewfinder

Yes, this post is about another photography obsession of mine.

Its called Through The Viewfinder (TTV) photography.
I've loved it for awhile now and decided that I wanted to learn how to do it.
TTV photography is pretty self-explanatory. Basically you are taking a picture with a digital camera through the viewfinder of another camera. Get it?
After spending a little too much time on the internet, I finally figured out how it all works and had ordered the Kodak Duaflex II...a necessary component of TTV photography.
It came in the mail last week and I about died of excitement when I saw the package sitting on my front porch! I ripped that thing right out of the package and started taking pictures.
Sure, I know you can use photoshop and make your pictures look like they're real TTV photos (here is a good tutorial)...but the real thing is much more fun.
Here are some of my first shots:

"All that is gold does not glitter,
“How do you pick up the threads of an old life...?

Just wanted to quickly share a couple of photos that I came across while going through my grandparent's photo albums. old photos are the best.
The first one is my grandpa with my mom.
The second one is my grandpa with my sister kelli.
I just love how similar the two photos are.

Well, its time to get crackin' on that homework again.

so i'm a little obsessed

with toy cameras. and film.

Here are the results from my actionsampler.

ice cream
sunset
trampoline
flip, yo!
Not the greatest but I'm pretty proud since it was my first roll of film. I learned a lot. Like hold the camera still. Very still. And you need light. Lots and lots of light. My next roll will be better.
I got a roll from my holga back today. These results were better than last time. Color film worked a lot better for me.
fuschia
raspberry shakes!
bearlake
corn
As I mentioned in my last post, I want a supersampler way bad. I keep looking for one on ebay or amazon...and I keep getting beat in the auctions. Just last night I found another camera I want. Its the lomo fisheye camera. It would be super fun to have. Also, I have my eye on the fuji instax. Of course, I'm not planning on buying that until polaroid film has completely vanished. Actually I just heard that polaroid film might not vanish. It might be back in 2010. And I'm hoping it will be a little bit cheaper.
And then I have my eye on a Canon Rebel...which, of course, is NOT a toy camera. I am thinking that it can be a gift to myself when I completely finish school. :]

my happy list

Check out the rockstar diaries.
I just came across this blog a couple weeks ago and I think it is so cute!
I love reading the "happy lists" she posts and decided to make one of my own.
So here it is:

1. falling asleep to the rain.
2. adventures.
3. sundresses and picnic baskets.
4. letters from slovakia.
5. stepping on crispy, crunchy autumn leaves.
6. raspberry lemonade snowcones.
7. watching airplanes.
8. hummingbirds.
9. polaroid photos.
10. poppies.

This is the first of many, I'm sure.

This blog also inspired me to get a polaroid camera.
Yes, I bought one off of ebay for $8.99. I couldn't bring myself to spend any more than that for one since Polaroid has ceased making polaroid film. But you better believe I'm going to have fun with it while I can. I have film in transit to my house as we speak. Its pricey. But soooo worth it. I've had so much fun with it! Its so magical. I love the sound it makes when it takes the picture. And watching it develop totally captivates me.

corn
Thats the corn in the garden in my backyard.
sisters
And thats me and Sarah.

Ah, those colors. Mmm...I love them. Okay, so these aren't the best but I tried. I'll be sharing more soon :]

Speaking of film and cameras, I just finished my second roll of holga film and took it to the lab. I should be expecting it back in two weeks. Also, I finished shooting up the film that was in my actionsampler. I've changed my mind and want a supersampler now so I may be selling my actionsampler. I don't know...it depends on how this roll comes back. It should be back on Thursday.

I better go to bed before I eat any more. In addition to the three dinners I ate tonight I've also chowed down a bag of licorice, a bag of popcorn, and some ice cream sandwiches. Yes, some...not one. Plus, 4am is going to come early. Goodnight!

very busy week.

This week has been busy busy busy. Monday was just nuts and I was super tired by the time I got home from work that night. On Tuesday Sarah and I went shopping at the Gateway and then went to Matt (Matt as in Andy's brother) and Ashley's wedding dinner. Matt looked so very handsome and Ashley was gorgeous. They both looked so happy and cute! It kind of made me want to get married. Just a little bit. :] And it made me miss Andy. A whole lot. Wednesday was Kelbel's graduation. On Thursday I observed some more ultrasounds. I actually got to do the first part of a couple of the exams. So fun! I'm going to love it! That night me and Kelli were going to go to the Owl City/Classic Crime concert but we didn't because I'm too scared to drive in Salt Lake. So is she. Today I worked and then went to Matt and Ashley's reception. It was beautiful! It was almost EXACTLY what I have imagined mine looking like! It was an outside reception, Nate's (another one of Andy's brothers) band, Lokalgrown, was playing, there were cute litte white chairs and tables, cute flowery centerpieces, a yummy lemon-lime drink, delicious cake aaaaand her wedding video rocked.

Oh! I got my holga pictures back. Um, only about 5 of the 12 pictures turned out. The rest were either double exposed, too bright, too dark, or didn't work because I left the lens cap on. :] This one was my favorite.

I wish I would have known that I put black and white film in there! I have a lot of practicing to do obviously. I've already started on my next roll so everyone, please cross your fingers!
This also reminds me...I need to get a negative scanner....

I've had some time to squeeze in a little scrapbooking this week. This is a page I made celebrating our 5 year anniversary. And the next picture is of a card I made. Felt and buttons are my favorite. :]

I'll be finishing up my busy week tomorrow by running 13.1 miles, hitting a couple estate sales, going out to eat for Kelbel's graduation celebration, and working.

Now I'm off to move and organize my crafting supplies. Wish me luck!

i tumble.

I'm officially into tumbling. Is that what you'd call it? No, not the crazy break-your-neck tumbling. I'm talking about tumblr And I love it.
Seriously, just what I need. Another internet addiction.
Its a place where I can keep everything that I find that I think rocks. Poems, quotes, videos, pictures, songs, anything that I find pretty, lovely and inspiring. It keeps me a little organized. I always find things that I just love, be it a quote, a picture, lyrics, or whatever and I've totally cluttered up my computer with random word documents filled with the above mentioned. So this will be nice. It will help me keep things tidy.
You can visit me here if you feel like it.
Okay, I just have to tell everyone how excited I am that I'm finally getting my first roll from my holga developed. I can't wait!! I dropped my film off today!! I think I've made every mistake possible on this roll of film, from accidental double exposures to leaving the lens cover on, so we'll see how it turns out...uh...if it turns out. I've forgotten how fun it is to use film...its been too long! I've forgotten how anxious and excited I get waiting for the pictures to come back. Its always a surprise! I just loaded my next roll of film...and I can't wait to get started taking more pictures!
I ran across some beautiful holga pictures today and just thought I'd share one of my favorites!

montana

I've been rummaging through old pictures lately. I've been trying to organize and scan them all. Like I've said before, its some big family history project that I'm working on. And its a very, very long, time-consuming process. But I've come across some old pictures that I love and some that bring back so many good memories.
So I'm planning on sharing some of them as I go.

The one from my last post was a picture of wintertime at my grandparent's cabin in Montana. They never would stay up there for the winter. They'd head South in their motorhome until the snow was pretty much gone. Like vagabonds. Oh, what a life!

My grandparents moved from Washington to Montana sometime in 1992.
We'd go up there every summer and spend a couple weeks. The days were long, carefree, and filled with adventure. We'd spend them outside underneath the towering pines. Laying in the hammock. I remember running around barefoot, wildflowers, garter snakes, feeding the deer, hummingbirds, going down to the lake with our picnic lunch, nightly campfires and roasting marshmallows. I'm pretty convinced that they were the best summers of my life. These pictures were taken in 1992. This baby owl had fallen out of his nest. We happened to come across him and I got to hold him before Rick, a nature-wildlife-forest guy who knew exactly what to do, put him back up in his tree. This picture is of a bear that thought he was a bird. Yes, he is just splashing away in the bird bath that is a little too small for him.I love bears. My grandparents moved to Utah in 1999 to be closer to us. It has almost been 11 years since I've been there. I'd go back in a heartbeat if given the chance. Even though I miss it like you wouldn't believe, I feel so fortunate to at least have the memories.

I hope this is what heaven is like.
